with the powerful grand cross new moon in libra the commenced a new lunar cycle last week (friday the 4th) we have entered into the last eclipse portal of the year. the full moon that marks the midway point of the current lunar cycle we are in will be a lunar eclipse and the new moon that follows will be a solar eclipse. eclipse portals are period of rapid transformation and change, where we are quickly taken from point A to point B in exciting and/or anxiety-producing fashion. major endings and major new beginnings can occur during eclipse portals- and leaning when to let go or when to hold on is key.
the full moon lunar eclipse on october 18th straddles the signs of aries and libra (moon and sun respectively). with the signs of self and other, give and take, independence and interdependence highlighted many of the climaxes, culminations, crises and stuff up at the time of the lunar eclipse will be around relationships in our lives. the sun in libra seeks balance, compromise and connection- while the moon in aries seeks freedom, independence and action. in the lunar eclipse chart they are both square to jupiter in cancer and black moon lilith- bringing in a fierce, primal Dark Goddess energy that can be regenerative and transformative OR it can be dark, destructive and emotionally unstable. with cancer as a part of the T-square formed by the lunar eclipse, home/family situations and our relationship to (or attachments to) the past are also a focus. what is interesting about this eclipse is that it will be repeated in it’s opposite in april when the lunar eclipse in libra occurs. from now until then- the next 6 months can be a very intense time in relationships as we navigate the endings, new beginnings, contracts, expectations, obligations and commitments to self and other.
the dark moon days that precede the new moon solar eclipse on november 3rd are fertile and should be used to turn within, take stock of all that went down in the lunar cycle the preceded (from 10/4-11/2) and see what needs to be regenerated, renewed or released and then doing it. the solar eclipse in scorpio is a powerful one, as it falls two days after the last uranus/pluto square of the year (making the 1st through the 3rd a very potent, potentially volatile and/or activating weekend). in addition to this the sun/moon conjunction is aligned with karmic saturn, the evolutionary north node and retrograde mercury in scorpio. mercury will station direct on 11/11- so the first week or so of this new moon cycle is best spent in reflection, review and revision and not in typical new moon fashion where we set out on new journeys or new cycles. there is a very internal, long-term focus energy to this solar eclipse- and wherever it falls for you in your natal chart you have very significant new cycles being seeded (check your weekly horoscopes for more info).
for more in-depth info on both of these eclipses check the lunar insights posted a few days before each lunation. this blog serves as a head’s up to what is in-coming. transformational energies are afoot! relationships are changing, shadow is up and shadow dancing should commence. if we can be fierce and compassionate, wise and loving- we can navigate the coming weeks with awareness and consciousnesses. by the time thanksgiving comes we will be in a very different energy frequency- but it will take until april 2014 to complete. with samhain commencing just before the solar eclipse in scorpio we are initiated into the last part of the season cycle that is best navigated by disconnecting from the external world and turning within. take time out of your busy life and schedule to do so- as you don’t want to miss the insights, growth and evolution available to you this fall!
